| Summary: | The Hamilton Neighbourhoods Study is a longitudinal survey of residents in selected neighbourhoods in the city of Hamilton, in Ontario, Canada. These neighbourhoods have higher rates of poverty, lower levels of education, higher rates of disability, a larger proportion of recent immigrants and visible minorities, and greater residential mobility and instability compared to the rest of the city. The recruitment process was challenging and succeeded only when it responded to the experiences and challenges of the population. This case study documents how the recruitment evolved to address very pragmatic concerns, for example, around staff safety, while at the same time seeking to maintain fidelity to recruitment strategies aimed at ensuring a representative sample. |
