Abstract: | The article focuses on how the depiction of the National Health Service (NHS) in satirical humor reflects societal change in Great Britain since the founding of the healthcare system in 1948. Topics discussed include the introduction of the NHS with the goal of providing free healthcare to all Britons and the shift from light to a dark, critical form of humor in the age of permissive society and protest politics. Criticisms regarding the racist and sexist delivery of services are mentioned. |
