Abstract: The article discusses findings that indicate that oxygen levels in Earth's atmosphere have fluctuated throughout its history. It may have been these variations that have energized life to make leaps of development or forced it to retreat. This would include events such as the colonization of land, numerous mass extinctions, and the rise of the dinosaurs.
