Abstract: A chapter from the book "Manning Clark's History of Australia," abridged by Michael Cathcart is presented. It recalls the significant historical events that happened in Australia in the years after 1935. Bob Menzies succeeded Joe Lyons as prime minister in April 1939 and on August 28, 1941, his colleagues suggested he should resign. John Curtin became a Labor Prime Minister of Australia on October 3, 1941, and died on July 5, 1945 at the age of 60.
