Abstract: The article offers information about the development of New Zealand-oriented sociology. It is stated that sociology in New Zealand is embedded fairly within a much broader grouping that includes social work, social policy, gender studies and criminology. Meanwhile, New Zealand Sociology has not been noted for its public involvement. The factors in which New Zealand sociologists have become involved outside the narrower bounds of academic modes include civic sociology, government-oriented sociology, deep left sociology, issue related sociology, and high social theory.
