Abstract: The article delves into two interpretations of "uprightness" in the Analects – one psychological and one moral. Topics include the psychological and moral meanings of "uprightness," the debate between the Duke of She and Confucius in Analects 13.18, and arguments in favor of Confucius' position that fathers and sons should cover up for each other, with implications for Confucian society.
