Abstract: "Faith, Rights, and Choice: The Politics of Religious Schools in Canada" edited by James Farney and Clark Banack explores the historical development and governance of religious schools in Canada. The book takes a pragmatic approach, examining the various policy responses and accommodations made by provinces over time. It identifies three regimes: the "Faith Regime" of Christian communities, the "Rights Regime" that emerged after World War II, and the "School Choice Regime" driven by parents and religious groups advocating for free-market principles. The authors provide an overarching framework for understanding the evolution of religious school provision in Canada, although the book may overlook the deep doctrinal and linguistic differences that shaped the development of schools in different regions.
