Abstract: Likewise, Christopher J. Young's critical analysis of how the Unity game engine encloses local scenes distills key ideas from his more expansive ethnographic dissertation research on Toronto game makers (Young [22]). Game Production Studies: by Olli Sotamaa and Jan Svlech, Amsterdam University Press, Amsterdam, Netherlands, 2021, €109,00/Open Access 9789463725439 Eminent game scholar T.L. Taylor lays out a compelling argument against the siloing of game studies apart from other fields of academic research, which she attributes not only to parochialism in game studies but also to an unwillingness from scholars outside the field to take games seriously. As Sotamaa and Svlech indicate in their introduction, although there is growing popular and academic interest in game making practices, processes, and structures, what they call game production studies is not new.
