Abstract: "The Impacts of Dictatorship on Heritage Management" by Minjae Zoh is a book that explores the effects of dictatorial regimes on heritage management. Zoh argues that the traditional framework for assessing heritage management, known as Authorized Heritage Discourse (AHD), is not applicable to dictatorial systems. Instead, she proposes a new model called Authorized Dictatorial Discourse (ADD) that takes into account the power dynamics and selective use of heritage sites in dictatorial regimes. The book focuses on six sites in South Korea during the country's Military Dictatorship Era (MDE) from 1961 to 1988. Zoh's research raises questions about the complexities of heritage management under dictatorships and the potential benefits of governmental indifference. The book will be of interest to students and scholars in Heritage Studies and political science, as well as those interested in Korean history and the manipulation of historical narratives.
