Abstract: Manga has become increasingly popular in North America, with sales quadrupling since 2020. This surge in demand has led to the entry of both large and small companies into the manga market, including publishers from Japan, South Korea, China, and other parts of Asia. Manga readers are now more open to comics from different countries, and publishers are catering to this diverse audience by releasing comics by global creators. Japanese manga publishers are also making efforts to market their comics overseas, with initiatives such as online serialization and same-day English releases. Additionally, there is a growing focus on creating manga adaptations of genre fiction popular in the U.S. and on promoting diversity in manga by featuring Black and Latinx characters. The popularity of manga in the U.S. may have an impact on the publishing and marketing strategies of Japanese publishers in the future. [Extracted from the article]
