Abstract: | The article reports that the travel books market has continued to move in the right direction in 2005. Despite an economic slowdown and rising consumer debt, the attraction of leaving it all behind, if only for a while, remains strong. The influence of television on travel book sales pervades the two new travel literature titles on the list too. Dan Cruickshank's book "Around the World in 80 Treasures" and Ray Mears' "Bushcraft Survival" both gained momentum from their BBC series, as well as vital front-of-store display space in the chains. As far as travel writing without TV is concerned, the battle for crossover success remains tough. |
