| Abstract: | The article discusses the transformation of religion-state relations in New Zealand. European immigrants made various regional attempts to establish state church in the country. The signing of the Treaty of Waitangi covered an oral assurance of religious freedom and equality to the Maori people. The Education Act of 1877 created a national system of education that has to be free, secular and compulsory. New Zealand had a cultural establishment of Christianity. |
