Abstract: This paper describes the well-known DuPont Model and develops a companion "pipeline" model of the firm to show and clarify for managers many aspects of how to make decisions to maximize firm value and firm growth. In addition to the model presentations, several examples are provided to demonstrate how the pipeline model, in conjunction with the DuPont Model, can be used to answer important "what if" questions. Such answers indicate the broader consequences of making changes to the firm's capital structure, asset base, financing choices, marketing initiatives, labor negotiations as well as many other typical decisions.
