| Abstract (English): | This paper aims to highlight the increasing value of Joseph Nye's concept of soft power in East Asia by observing the actions of China and Japan in Thailand. The two major powers are trying to gather sociocultural and political resources towards improved economic relations and collaborations, while mostly detaching from ideological promotion. This article gathers opinions from "intellectual elites" to assess how the two countries understand soft power in action while outlining their main objectives, strategies, and impact. Although China's reputation is gradually improving, the country seems to be playing a risky game where admiration for its economic prowess and skepticism towards its opaque methods are equally present, resulting in a precarious position. Japan's image is still positive and stable, but its safe‐playing stance seems to reflect the geopolitical status‐quo and could be a missed opportunity to emerge as the third option beyond China and the United States. | Abstract (Spanish): | Comparación de las estrategias de poder blando de China y Japón en Tailandia: Este documento tiene como objetivo resaltar el valor creciente del concepto de poder blando de Joseph Nye en el este de Asia al observar las acciones de China y Japón en Tailandia. Las dos potencias principales están tratando de reunir recursos socioculturales y políticos para mejorar las relaciones económicas y las colaboraciones, mientras se desvinculan principalmente de la promoción ideológica. El documento recoge las opiniones de las "élites intelectuales" para evaluar cómo los dos países entienden el poder blando en acción, al tiempo que describe sus objetivos principales, estrategias blandas e impacto. Aunque la reputación de China está mejorando gradualmente, el país parece estar jugando un juego arriesgado donde la admiración por su destreza económica y el escepticismo hacia sus métodos opacos están igualmente presentes, lo que resulta en una posición precaria. La imagen de Japón sigue siendo positiva y estable, pero su postura de juego seguro parece reflejar el statu quo geopolítico y podría ser una oportunidad perdida para emerger como la tercera opción más allá de China y Estados Unidos. | Abstract (Chinese): | 比较中日两国在泰国的软实力战略: 本文旨在通过观察中国和日本在泰国的行动，强调学者Joseph Nye提出的软实力概念在东亚地区日益增加的价值。为提升（与泰国的）经济关系和合作，两个大国都努力聚集社会文化资源和政治资源，同时这些资源基本都与其意识形态扩张相分离。本文从"智力精英"处收集意见，评估中日两国如何从行动上理解软实力，同时概述其主要目标、软战略和影响。尽管中国的声誉正在逐步提升，该国似乎在进行一场有风险的博弈，即其因经济实力受到的崇拜和因模糊方式而受到的质疑以对等的形式存在，导致其处于一个危险地位。日本的形象仍然是正面且稳定的，但其在安全范围内博弈的态度似乎反映了当前的地缘政治，并可能失去成为越过中国和美国的第三选择的机会。 [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
