Abstract: This article investigates the appearance of robots on stage in contemporary performance. As a convincing demonstration of the relevance of robots - as artefact, concept and metaphor - we take Blanca Li's 2013 dance performance Robot ! as our starting point. We have distilled five dimensions that provide vocabulary and terminology to characterise different instances of robots on stage with a focus on their expressive character. These dimensions are: Movements, Apparent level of Autonomy & Interaction, Appearance, Massification and Sound. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
