Abstract: Religious tourism and pilgrimage are often considered a type of "soft" tourism, in which these travelers are thought to be environmentally conscious and mindful (Lusby, [1]). In chapter 3, Shinde compares the environmental management issues at six religious tourism destinations in western India, using these to expand on the conceptual model introduced in the introductory chapter. A Shinde and Daniel H. Olsen is the first book to discuss both religious tourism and the environment and therefore provides a well-needed examination into the environmental relationship and implications of this huge travel sector.
