Abstract: The scarcity of non-white architects within architectural practice has been a source of concern for at least five decades, going back to Whitney M. Young, Jr.'s rebuke of the profession at the 1968 annual convention of the American Institute of Architects. At Tuskegee University, faculty in the department of architecture has initiated a first-of-its-kind visiting scholar program, co-taught with faculty and scholars from PWIs and large architecture firms. Yet HBCUs and MSIs enrolled 36% of the total Black student population in NAAB-accredited programs and 30% of all Asian students, 45% of Hispanic/Latino students, and 55% of American Indian, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander students.
