| Abstract (English): | This paper analyzes the historical development of the accounting profession and the teaching of accounting in Portugal during the 20th century and the first twenty years of the 21st century. An in-depth qualitative study was carried out, using mainly secondary, but also primary sources, of the main educational movements related to the accounting activity, framing the analysis in the Institutional Theory. The period analyzed was marked by several historical events that contributed to the development of the profession and its current recognition as a professional class. All these events had an impact on both the profession and the development of accounting education. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
| Abstract (Spanish): | Este trabajo analiza la evolución histórica de la profesión contable y de la enseñanza de la contabilidad en Portugal durante el siglo XX y los primeros veinte años del siglo XXI. Se realizó un estudio cualitativo en profundidad, recurriendo principalmente a fuentes secundarias, pero también primarias, de los principales movimientos relacionados con la educación contable, enmarcando el análisis en la Teoría Institucional. El periodo analizado estuvo marcado por varios acontecimientos históricos que contribuyeron al desarrollo de la profesión y a su actual reconocimiento como clase profesional. Todos estos acontecimientos repercutieron tanto en la profesión como en el desarrollo de la enseñanza de la contabilidad. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
| Abstract (Portuguese): | No presente trabalho foi analisada a evolução histórica da profissão contabilística e do ensino da contabilidade em Portugal durante o decorrer do século XX e os primeiros vinte anos do século XXI. Foi feito um estudo qualitativo aprofundado, recorrendo essencialmente a fontes secundárias, mas também primárias, dos principais movimentos relacionados com a educação em contabilidade, enquadrando a análise na Teoria Institucional. O período analisado foi marcado por diversos acontecimentos históricos que contribuíram para o desenvolvimento da profissão e para o seu atual reconhecimento como uma classe profissional. Todos estes acontecimentos tiveram impacto quer na profissão quer no desenvolvimento do ensino da contabilidade. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
