Abstract: Recent years have seen a considerable increase in interest in the notion of smart cities, as cities all over the globe experience with the effects of rising urbanization and the need for efficient and sustainable urban growth. The present study includes an in-depth review of smart cities, including their history, definition, application, consequences, issues, and opportunities for coming years. The study initiates with exploring the historical background and development of smart cities, emphasing how technology is incorporated into urban planning and management. Furthermore, the review paper aims to identify significant topics and areas of concentration in research and practise, and highlight challenges and future possibilities in their implementation.
