| Abstract: | The article stresses the importance of accurate identification of the key welfare issues for captive elephants. The author stresses that identifying the welfare issues accurately could improve standards and help in the development of a welfare index. Exercise provision, interaction with the keeper and enclosure environment are among the welfare issues identified. |
