| Abstract: | The article discusses the history of open access books in Europe and explains its prospects for the future. Topics include the formation of the Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB) in 2012, the emergence of the infrastructure to drive OA books publishing through establishment of new publishing houses for the humanities and social sciences, and funding of the OA books through publication subsidies. |
