Abstract: In this chapter we will discuss the many Normal means problem which unifies some nonparametric problems and will be the basis for the methods in the next two chapters. The material in this chapter is more theoretical than in the rest of the book. If you are not interested in the theoretical details, I recommend reading sections 7.1, 7.2, and 7.3 and then skipping to the next chapter, referring back as needed. If you want more details on this topic, I recommend Johnstone (2003). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
