Abstract: The article discusses the microcinema movement that emerged in the 1990s. The author defines microcinema as independent small venue cinemas that provide an alternative showcase for films that are typically not distributed by larger media companies. Microcinema was greatly benefited by advancements in digital video technology that allowed people to film, edit, and distribute their works without needing a massive budget. The effects of the microcinema movement on the motion picture industry are examined, focusing on the distributor Kino.
