Abstract: An essay examining the genesis of the Arctic passage project, launched in the 16th century, as related to the China dream by looking through the metaphorical and historical relationships of John Donne's image of the Anyan Strait in his poem "Hymn to God My God, in My Sickness" is presented. It explores the role of the Far East region in shaping Donne's global perspective. It also examines Donne's response to the Western discovery of the Far East.
