Whakarāpopotonga: The Wai Ariki Hot Springs and Spa in Rotorua, New Zealand, is a spa and wellness facility that incorporates Māori cultural elements and practices. Designed by RCG and owned by the Pukeroa Oruawhata Trust, the facility provides commercial and charitable opportunities for Ngāti Whakaue descendants. The architecture of Wai Ariki includes pou whenua and whakairo that represent significant ancestors and tell the story of Ngātoroirangi. The spa experiences at Wai Ariki incorporate traditional Māori medicine and songs, and the building utilizes sustainable design practices. The project aims to showcase Māori architecture and promote a deeper understanding of Māori knowledge and culture. [Extracted from the article]
