| Abstract: | The article features Virginia Oldoini di Verasis, Contessa di Castiglione. The countess was born in Florence, Italy in 1837 to a family of nobility and married Francesco di Verasis, Conte di Castiglione and member of the court of Vittorio Emanuele II di Savioa, at age 16. She arrived in Paris, France at age 18 with her husband and infant child and started her interest in photography during its boom in Paris in the 1850's. The countess became a private client of Peirre-Louis Pierson for 40 years and is famous for her elaborate dresses in her photographs. |
