Using extensive clinical examples drawn from her own professional experience, Kristina Stanton-Jones illustrates differing theoretical approaches in action with both individuals and groups. The text provides outlines of the psychodynamic, Jungian, ego-psychoanalytic, and Gestalt schools, together with a description of group work from various approaches, including psychoanalytically informed work and methods derived from Irvin Yalom's existential perspective. It examines these approaches in the contexts of both long-term patients and high-functioning out-patient groups. Stanton-Jones describes a new "symbolic" approach to DMT which combines the theories of Bion and Winnicott with traditional DMT methods.
