| Summary: | My dissertation is aimed at finding a solution to intensify the site of Newmarket, which will be explored through the redevelopment of Lumsdon Green, an eventful central area with a busy intersection. This dissertation raises questions to ask why places need to be intensified, and come to a solution of intensifying Newmarket, by considering the site as a transitory space where it is inhabited by people as a 'temporary' lodging. As a space it lacks sense of belonging, so that people hardly want to stay in this district. The few coffee shops located near Lumsdon, have caused an inefficient utilization of this area. Through the exploration of 'sensory intensification', the relation of humans and space, the project intends to create a space that involves overlapping senses, memory and experience. This space can therefore be connected and communicated, through people being provided more opportunities for its inhabitation. A mode of modelling has been applied in this project to demonstrate ideas clearly, while easily manipulating the assembly and reconstruction of space. |
