Summary:On the fifty-fourth session of the Economic and Social Council the Secretary-General requested the IUOTO to make a study on the impact of international tourism on the economic development of the developing countries. The purpose was a study with special emphasis on the revenue of the developing countries, the distortions caused by tourism development and the practices which deprive the developed countries from the benefits, furthermore to view at the necessity of national and international measures which have the objective to improve the position of the developing countries in the international market. The Study was being realised by the Secretariat General of IUOTO which carried out this study with substantial technical contribution of the Economist Intelligence unit and consultants of London who had been recruited before.
