Description
Summary:Truth & Art is a new film and exhibition by the celebrated visual artist - Sunara Begum, exploring the relationship between three global artists/musicians and their work. Through her portraiture, digital tapestry and montage her work brings us into their world and delves deep into their musical and creative practice. The documentary film celebrates the life and work of these innovative global artists. Three of the world's finest artists/musicians from South America, the Caribbean and Africa featuring the Diana Baroni Trio, guitarist and folklorist Derek Johnson and composer and Kora (West African Harp) player, Tunde Jegede. The images of Sunara Begum are evocative and timeless where she has developed an original and unique visual language. Combining paint on 16mm film with archive images and B&W portraiture Begum captures the music, culture and traditions of three continents. Sunara tells the story of the ancient and modern, whilst illustrating the fragility and impermanence of seeking truth in art. Sunara Begum is a visual artist and filmmaker whose work is perfectly placed between East and West. She uses the worlds of Film, Theatre, Photography and Text to heighten people's experience of the arts and her work seeks to draw out answers from the past to address the present. Sunara's work challenges windows of perception thereby allowing a shift in approach and attitude towards raising cultural awareness, growth and understanding. Sunara is considered by many to be a young sage storyteller, who is the embodiment of hope, love and fearlessness. Her films are spiritual affirmations and high meditations on the gifts of culture, art, language, travel, community, family, and home. She is a spirited woman who is continually on the quest to diligently re-envision the world, which in turn elevates all who look through her mirror and see. Sunara is committed to the development of people and the celebration of cultures. Through her work she seeks to bring dignity to her subjects and make our world a better place.
