Description
Summary:In early 2021, a marketing analytics team at a reputable organization in India was debating the prospects and growth forecasts of the affordable housing sector in urban India. This sector was a priority area for the government and several schemes to aid its growth had been launched. During 2018-20, Additive Manufacturing (also called 3D printing) was used to develop a low-cost housing solution by the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. Against this backdrop, the case uses the experience of a low-cost builder in Mexico to forecast the possible diffusion of affordable housing in India. The Bass model is a mathematical model that can forecast the diffusion of single-time purchases of a new product. Students will be asked to forecast, using the Bass model, the diffusion of a new product, Additive Manufacturing-based affordable housing in India. The case is designed to build student competence in forecasting diffusion of new products using the Bass model of diffusion without historical diffusion data for the product concerned. It also illustrates the role of cultural dimensions of Hofstede in producing forecasts using the Bass model.
