Summary: | The case explores the dilemma faced by Dr. Naresh Saran, director of Zenith Institute of Management Studies (ZIMS), whose growth plans for the institute are at odds with the principle of inclusiveness enshrined in its mission statement. In keeping with his commitment to the Board of Governors, Saran pursues accreditation by international agencies and transforms ZIMS from a teaching institute into a research-centric one. But Professor Kapoor, a highly respected teacher, and other senior faculty, resist assimilation into the research culture. They are vocal in their criticism of the performance metrics accreditation mandates. Saran now faces the unpleasant prospect of communicating to them that they cannot teach in ZIMS's flagship programme, as their research falls short of the required minimum. However, the bigger challenge is to persuade them to embrace changes necessary for ZIMS to remain competitive. How can Saran take his senior faculty along as the institute changes tracks?. |
