Description
Summary:Bernice Rodriguez has recently noticed a disturbing trend of low morale and performance issues within her department, which is mostly made up of employees from a company acquired by Unlimited Packaging (UP) many years ago, Frozen. Concerned about the direction her department's performance is trending and the rumblings she is hearing from her subordinates, Bernice hires a consultant to help determine the cause of these issues and recommend solutions. After interviewing employees and management, the consultant concludes that the issues derive from the organization's culture and climate and the existence of a subculture in the department. Now Bernice must choose between the solutions the consultant offered to determine which ones she should recommend to her boss and if there are other ways she can improve the morale in her department. This case encourages students to think about cultural and climate dynamics and how subcultures can develop and impact organizations and employee satisfaction.
